7 Podcasts to Enrich Your Copywriting and Marketing Knowledge
In today’s marketing world, you need to wear a lot of hats. With SEO, PR and content marketing all converging like never before, you need to be clued up on multiple areas if you want to be the added value copywriter clients are crying out for these days.
A great way of building up your marketing savvy is listening to podcasts. You can listen to them on the commute, at the gym or when doing chores around the house, and turn dead time into productive learning windows.
If you’ve yet to get into podcasts, here are seven I recommend that will improve your copywriting and marketing knowledge and make you the multidimensional professional your career demands:
Copywriter, speaker and author Ray Edwards runs a polished and professional operation. His podcast has the same production standards as a studio radio show and his content is just as impressive. Along with episodes on the art of copywriting, he shares his insights on what it takes to run a successful entrepreneurial business.
A couple of years back I applied for a full-time copywriting job but soon had second thoughts after listening to this podcast. Along with Tim Ferris’ ‘4 Hour Work Week’,The Tropical MBA is responsible for 100s if not 1000s of people handing in their notice and jetting off to pursue the online business dream. This podcast is packed with insights on the myriad of ways of starting an online business and what it takes to be successful. It’s motivating stuff.
Presented by Robert Rose and Joe ‘The Most Entertaining Commercial for Content Marketing’ Pulizzi, This Old Marketing Podcast gives you with a weekly dose of discussions of all things content marketing. If you want your finger on the pulse of the latest trends and the best ways of selling with stories, this is essential listening.
This one is all about conversion. Presented by John McIntyre, his guest list is a roll call of today’s most respected copy dogs, which includes John Carlton, Drayton Bird, Perry Marshall and David Garfinkel. Impressive, right? If you’re serious about writing better copy, download this now.
This podcast goes past the surface clutter and into the deeper layers of the brain to answer the question ‘what makes people buy?’ John Carlton and Kevin Rogers host weekly discussions on the emotions, motivations and subconscious triggers that can give your marketing deeper meaning and power. John Carlton charges $1,000s for his marketing consultations. Subscribing to this podcast lets you peek inside his brain for free.
You’re right, this has nothing to do with marketing. But as a history buff, I have to include it in my list. I’m in awe of Dan’s research skills and ability to create such compelling and cohesive narratives on dramatic periods in history. Tim Ferris is a fan, and so am I.
Does exactly what it says on the tin. This UK produced podcast by the Site Visibility team, provides concise summaries of the latest digital marketing trends. With episodes a mere 20 minutes or less, this is perfect for when doing your ‘road work’ in the morning or a quick lunchtime stroll to clear away the cobwebs and boost your knowledge at the same time.
